About The Kaiku Collective
The Kaiku Collective is a photography studio rooted in service, storytelling, and community. Its journey began in Nairobi, Kenya in 2016, where photography first became a way to honour people’s uniqueness, dignity, and lived stories. What started as a passion grew through community, collaboration, and faith, forming the foundation of what would later be known as AfroCanQueen Photography.
In 2017, the vision travelled with the founder, Wanjiku Gitau, to London, UK, where the work expanded across cultures and creative spaces. London shaped the brand’s bold visual language and reinforced the power of photography as a tool for connection, representation, and service. The journey later led back to Kenya, where the work continued to grow through shared creativity, mentorship, and community engagement.
In September 2025, following a move to Adelaide, South Australia, the brand was reimagined and rebranded as The Kaiku Collective. The name reflects both growth and gratitude—acknowledging that this journey has always been a team effort, shaped by mentors, assistants, creatives, clients, and communities who have walked alongside the vision. The word Collective honours the belief that meaningful work is never created alone.
Specialising in maternity, beauty, fashion, and commercial photography, The Kaiku Collective creates timeless, story-driven imagery that celebrates individuality, strength, and purpose. Known for bold use of colour, creative lighting, and strong composition, the work is grounded in connection and care. Photography is approached not merely as an art form, but as an act of service—creating space for people to feel seen, valued, and celebrated.
“He has made everything beautiful in its time.” — Ecclesiastes 3:11
This verse sits at the heart of the collective’s work, reflecting a deep trust in God’s timing and a belief that beauty unfolds through process, faith, and collaboration. Each project is approached with gratitude, prayer, and respect for the journey behind the image.
Now based in Adelaide, The Kaiku Collective continues to grow, learn, and evolve—committed to serving people through photography with humility, excellence, and purpose.
The Kaiku Collective respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which we live and work, the Kaurna people, and pays respect to Elders past, present, and emerging. We recognise their enduring connection to land, culture, and community.
